Well, it looks like someone let the cat out of the bag. It’s been chased up a tree, but won’t budge, so here I am writing a second installment for the blog! Who knew canine intelligence was such a novelty? My life has been fairly ordinary over the last week, so I decided to interview my aunts Roxy and Pearl for you.
Moki: What is your favourite thing about being a Guavaberry dog?
Pearl: I’m sorry, I think you misspoke – you called me a dog, when everyone knows I’m a goddess. Anyway, my favourite thing is my fans! Most superstars shy away from the spotlight, but I’m more than happy to meet and greet my admirers. The photographs and hand-drawn portraits are always welcomed, and hold a special place in my heart.
Roxy: It’s got to be the belly rubs. I could lie in the middle of the floor all day! No broom, mop or tripping visitor will sway me.
Moki: Do you have favourite guests?
Pearl: What are guests? I can tell you about my entourage if you like – they’re ah-mazing. They come from all over the world and lavish me with treats, car rides, and smother me with kisses. One can’t simply have one human in their life, they all have so much to give!
Roxy: Of course I do, but I’ll never say who of course. Can you imagine if the others found out? I’d never get another treat again in my life!
Moki: How has life changed since the storm?
Pearl: Oh the thunder! The rain! It seems to be never ending these days. Thankfully, my agent, Tina, has found a nice, quiet place where I can focus on my meditation when the weather threatens my luscious fur. Humidity is not this girl’s best friend.
Roxy: We all live together in the office. Some pups would find the blending of home and work difficult, but as long as the beach is nearby and the chickens are running, it’s all good with me. Besides, the office is where all the cool kids hang out these days.
Moki: Speaking of chickens, how is the population?
Pearl: They’re worse than the paparazzi, I tell you! Hiding in every bush along the way, jumping out when you least expect it. Thankfully my faithful sidekick is always nearby to keep them in line.
Roxy: Delicious as always.
Moki: What are your thoughts on the “new arrival”?
Pearl: I’ve never had a child of my own, but I’ll take this one! I had to get up close just to hear the sweet sounds bellowing out of his little chest. With lungs like that, he is sure to be an opera singer one day, and I love the opera!
Roxy: I had to fight to get close, but I managed to get a good sniff in the other day. Scent-wise, I suppose it’s kind of like that “new car” smell. A mix of all kinds of things, blended together to be irresistible in a way you can’t really explain.
Moki: What would you most like to see at the new houses when they’re built?
Pearl: An extra large foot bowl at each house would be incredible. I love unwinding at the end of the day. Or at the beginning… or in the middle….
Roxy: Could we build a chicken house?
Moki: Probably not.
Roxy: Darn! Well, I suppose a special container for treats in every kitchen would do. Or maybe a jar of peanut butter. Mmmmmmmmmmmm, peanut butter. Oh gosh, I’m drooling!
Moki: Goodness, you really are drooling! Time to wrap this up with one last question. Can you describe your idea of heaven?
Pearl: Oh, easily. Somewhere everyone knows who I am, where I can run, swim, and enjoy the finer things in life, like getting my fur all muddy. Endless treats and attention would be ideal.
Roxy: For me, it would have to be somewhere I could chase lizards and chickens all day, with plenty of people around to rub my belly. Somewhere I’m loved for who I am, despite my sleeping with my tongue hanging out and my crooked teeth.
Moki: Wait a minute, that sounds like Guavaberry!
Pearl and Roxy: It is!!
Well, dear readers, there you have it. I hope the translation came across alright, and I was able to capture their personalities well enough for you. Barks and howls just don’t always flow so easily into English. I guess the most important message is that we four leggeds (even Mr T, the cat… not the one in the tree) are doing well and not lacking in love, cuddles, and treats! We all miss you very much, and can’t wait to see you again soon.
